Mercedes Bristol - Vice President

Ms. Bristol joined the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in 2009 as a Work Advisor until 2014. During that time, Ms. Bristol faced many challenges. In 2011, she stepped as guardian of her  five grandchildren and has devoted her time to raising them.  Since then she has been an active organizer in the San Antonio community with organizations such Abuelos y Nietos Juntos Support Group, and she is the founder of  San Antonio Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, that is focused on increasing awareness of the lack of rights, resources and support available to grandparents  raising grandchildren. In 2019, she established a nonprofit, Texas Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Mercedes is a member of: 

• Member of Bexar Cares Governing Counsel as Co-Chair
• Grand Voice Member for Generations United
• The Texas Kinship Collaboration Group, who reviews and gives input on Child Protective Service’s policies and practices.

Mercedes also co-leads a quarterly support group in partnership with DFP.
